Taryn Bauerle Photo

Taryn Bauerle (Assistant Professor, Department of Horiculture) was awarded a Seed Grant for her project, "Below Ground Root Competition and Plant Health in Mature Forests." Bauerle is an Assistant Professor of Root Biology in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University. Bauerle received her phD from The Pennsylvania State University in 2007 where she specialized in Root Physiological Ecology.

Her most current work has involved woody root dynamics in response to abiotic and biotic stressors. Her basic research ahs attracted the mutual interest of adademia and industry due to the nature of its applicability and focus on pertinent issues, such as the environmental stress of limited water supply and fine root responses to herbivore pressures.

Kelly Musick Photo

Kelly Musick (Associate Professor, Policy Analysis and Management) was awarded a Seed Grant for her project, "Nonmarital Fertility and Family Change in Comparative Perspective." Musick is an Associate Professor in the Department of Policy Analysis and Management at Cornell University where she studies contemporary family patterns with an emphasis on how they relate to social inequality and the well-being of family members.

Her work has been supported by a K01 Mentored Scientist Award from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and it has been published in leading journals in sociology and population studies.
