CIES recognizes that one of the most important steps to be taken in reducing the achievement gap in our schools is to provide educators with professional development opportunities and resources. The workshops, seminars and training sessions we support and organize provide an opportunity for educators to study with Cornell faculty, utilize campus resources, reflect upon teaching strategies, network with other teachers, and acquire new curriculum materials.
International Summer Institutes are held annually in collaboration with our Cornell Educational Resources for International Studies (CERIS). Past topics have included themed subjects such as teaching world culture through art; global contemporary adolescent literature; religious pluralism; world wars I and II; international water rights.
Information for the ISSI for 2012, Water: Symbolism and Sustainability, as well as previous ISSIs and resources related to them is available on the CERIS website:http://www.einaudi.cornell.edu/outreach_professional_development
