About Cornell Institute for European Studies
Cornell University

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Cornell was one of the first major universities in the United States to unite Eastern and Western European studies under a single umbrella. Today, Cornell Institute for European Studies (CIES) remains one of the few comprehensive and continent-wide centers for European studies in the United States. CIES is housed within the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies, located in Uris Hall in the heart of the Cornell campus.

The mission of CIES is to broaden the Cornell community's view of Europe, and to make the study of European languages, culture and society an integral part of graduate and undergraduate education.  The Institute's distinctiveness as a center for European studies lies in its commitment to integrating area expertise in Europe across academic disciplines and units.
